In these unprecedented times, we’re all looking for ways to stay engaged and have fun. It has been an especially hard year for children, as play with friends has been limited. Due to our community members’ hard work and diligence, fewer restrictions are being placed on social gatherings, including organized recreational activities.

At Crosslink County Sportsplex, we understand your child’s excitement to get back to playing sports. When the time comes for them to play their favourite sports with their peers, it’s important for them to practice good sportsmanship. This includes demonstrating respect and appreciation for the facility, referees and coaches on both sides of the sports field. Here are 5 qualities that make a great teammate.

Kindness

To be a great teammate, it’s important to be kind to everyone, on and off the field. Nobody expects you to be best friends with all of your teammates but building relationships with your teammates will improve team chemistry and communication when it matters most!

Adaptability

Part of being a good teammate is willing to adapt to the needs of your team. Remember that there is no “I” in the word “team.” Whether you’re willing to switch positions so another teammate feels more comfortable or you’re willing to sit on the bench to start the game so others can get playing time, doing these small selfless acts will endear you to your teammates and coaches.

Determination

Every time you step out on the court, field or ice rink, you have the chance to make a difference. You may not even realize it, but someone on your team may be looking up to you and your skills.

Determination is a team-building quality. The willingness to compete, regardless of the score, demonstrates to your teammates and coaches that you are prioritizing the success of your team rather than individual success.

Encouragement

Sports are fun, and you must never forget that. When playing sports with your teammates, try not to take it too seriously! Instead, use encouraging words and promote fun within your group. Every one of your teammates has a unique skill level, and not everyone will have the same experience; therefore, it can’t hurt to encourage your teammates through successes and failures!

Preparedness

Showing up on time, with a positive attitude, and willingness to learn and grow as an athlete is infectious. Be early for practice, put in a few extra reps, and you’ll earn the respect of your teammates instantly.

The team at Crosslink County Sportsplex can’t wait to see everyone return to enjoy their favourite sports and recreational activities. For more information on upcoming events and class bookings, feel free to contact Crosslink County Sportsplex today or visit our website!
